Lover not a fighter

Tuesday 7 September marked the 70th anniversary of the beginning of The Blitz. On Saturday, it was nine years since 9/11. 21 September is the International Day of Peace (Peace Day).

The day was established by the United Nations in 1981 to coincide with the opening of the General Assembly. The first Peace Day was celebrated in September 1982 and in 2002 the General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace.

There are plenty of events taking place up and down the country to celebrate Peace Day, including Barefoot Walk in Trafalgar Square and International Alert are in need of volunteer fundraisers to persuade commuters to part with their change at St Pancras, Euston, Victoria and Bond Street underground stations (email fundraising@international-alert.org if you would like to volunteer). To seach for events near you, click here
