Volunteering Update
October 2008

  Hello

Here's our monthly update
we hope you find it inspiring.

6-10 October is Advice Week and a great time to find out about roles at Citizen's Advice Bureau (CAB). They need 5,000 new volunteers each year. CAB need a huge range of volunteers from trustees to advisors, fundraisers to campaigners. Take a look at their website to find out more about getting involved in your local community.

Also in October is CSV Make a Difference Day, the UK's biggest single day of volunteering. This year it takes place on and around 25 October.

Visit the website and find an activity to join, or register a project of your own and receive free resources!

If you're a parent you might be interested in roles with Home-Start, the UK's leading family support charity. Ordinary people, with real parenting experience, can help other families that are struggling to cope.

The Real Parents campaign is asking you to become a home-visiting volunteer.

Find out what it's all about and hear what Home-Start volunteers have to say.

Even if you're not a parent there are still volunteer roles that you could do that will have a positive impact on children's lives. Here are some ideas:

Action for Children supports the UK's most vulnerable children and young people. Find more information here

Every school in England needs governors for advice and to provide strategic management. School Governors' One Stop Shop is a charity that could help you find a role as a governor. Check to see whether schools in your area need governors on their interactive map and apply to be one here

Your ideas please

Don't miss the opportunity to win £50 of Argos vouchers. All you need to do is share your parenting experiences. If you are a mum or dad tell us what you wish you had known before you became a parent.

We're here to help, so please get in touch if you are trying to find an opportunity that will suit you or if you want to share your volunteering story. Remember to let us know if your contact details change.
