Kevin Barron MP knighted in New Year Honours

We are delighted to see that one of our leading supporters, Kevin Barron MP, has been knighted in the Queen’s New Year Honours list.

Kevin has a passionate interest in health, and recently supported a Westminster event to launch the evaluation of TimeBank’s Shoulder to Shoulder project, which recruits and trains volunteer mentors to support ex-servicemen and women who are recovering from mental health issues.

Kevin, MP for Rother Valley for the last 30 years, has been honoured for political and public service. He worked at Maltby Colliery for more than 20 years before being elected to Parliament in 1983.

He said: "I left school at 15 to join my elder brother and father at Maltby Colliery. The idea that I would become an MP was always a bit difficult to imagine so this honour is extraordinary."

Kevin is married to TimeBank chair, Andrée Deane, who is Director of Central YMCA and former Chief Executive of the Fitness Industry Association. She says: “I’m thrilled that Kevin has received this honour. It’s a recognition not only of his political work, but of his dedication to improving public health. It’s also a tribute to his extensive work in the community and his support for charities like TimeBank which share his passion for tackling complex social issues.”
