| Everyone has experienced times in their
lives when something has happened to cause unhappiness, like studying, working,
relationships or family. Many of us are helped through difficult situations
by someone taking the time to provide support and be there for us to talk
about our problems.
Samaritans is there 24 hours a day, providing confidential support to
anyone who feels that they need to get something off their chest. They
are looking for people to help respond to the 4.8 million contacts we
receive each year by phone, email, face to face or letter.

Samaritans needs you to volunteer. Volunteer
numbers are at their lowest since 1973, and your time and help is crucial
in helping us maintain the 24 hour service for people in distress.
Through volunteering with Samaritans, you can use and develop communications
skills that could be helpful in other aspects of your life. Our volunteers
are given extensive training to help them to provide the support that
people need, by phone, email or face to face. You’ll meet people
of different ages and backgrounds. And because Samaritans duties are carried
out in shifts, they are flexible enough to fit into even the busiest of
schedules.
