How does it work?

Would you like to have a mentor?

At the moment, the project is only open to young women within the care system in Southwark. In future, we hope to extend the project to support young people across London.

If you are interested in referring a young person to Starting Together or have any questions, contact the Project Co-ordinator Rachel Carder on 020 3111 0730 or email rachel@timebank.org.uk.

If you want to be a mentor

Mentors on Starting Together are female volunteers aged 25-45 who live in (or are willing to travel to) Southwark. You’ll need to commit to supporting a young woman for around five hours a month for six months.

The arrangement is flexible: you might want to meet your mentee at weekends and evenings, for example, so it’s a perfect volunteering opportunity if you work full-time.

You don’t need any special skills or experience – time, patience and commitment are most important. Just spending time with your mentee - listening and supporting them - will help to build their confidence, self-esteem and social networks.
