New Year volunteering top tips

10% of those who filled in our survey said they would lose interest in volunteering if they didn’t start straight away.

It may take some time for you to find the right volunteering opportunity so to help you stick to your New Year’s Resolution to volunteer, TimeBank has devised some ‘top tips’ so that you don’t give up at the first hurdle.
  • Ensure you get a specific contact name of the volunteer coordinator or relevant person so that you can chase it up

  • Ensure that you have your last five years of addresses to hand to avoid the delay of filling in your CRB (Criminal Record Bureau) check

  • Register for the TimeBank monthly newsletter for lots of different volunteering ideas and sign up to our blog

  • Do some research and think about what you want before you start looking

  • Pay a personal visit to your local volunteer centre so that you can find out about local volunteering opportunities there and then

  • Don’t be afraid to say no to an opportunity that doesn’t suit you or is not what you are interested in

  • Be patient - all good things come to those who wait!
